The Great Northern Casino is located in the city of Grande Prairie in northwest Alberta in the heart of the Peace Region. It is the largest city north of Edmonton, Alberta’s capital city. The casino has been constructed in the style of an old western town and sees itself as the premier entertainment location in the Grande Prairie area. The Great Northern was expanded to its present size of 30,000 square feet in July 2003. At the time the expansion was opened, the numbers of slot machines were increased to the maximum allowable for a minor casino and, given it is the only casino in Grande Prairie, it is the best gambling option for miles around.

The casino is only five kilometres from Grande Prairie airport and a short walk from the city centre. It has a hotel adjacent to the casino – Service Plus Inn and Suites – with 123 rooms offering queen or king sized beds. Complimentary breakfast is a hot buffet and facilities include an exercise room and a water park with water slide and hot tub. Other hotels nearby include the upmarket Podollan and Pomeroy Hotels as well as the cheaper options, the Canadian Motor Inn and the Igloo Inn.

The Great Northern Casino boasts over 400 exciting Vegas style slots where guests can win up to one million dollars. The poker room is open seven days a week until 2.00am. Buy-ins vary depending on the day, as does the game, but range from $1 and $2 up to $110. All tournaments have a $100 rebuy with late buys available. An additional luxury poker room is also available for high stakes poker.

The casino hosts a popular happy hour every day from 4.00-7.00pm in each of its two lounges. The Platinum showroom and lounge presents live entertainment Wednesday to Saturday featuring stand-up comedy, live music, cabaret as well as a dance floor. The Players Lounge also serves food and drinks which you can enjoy whilst watching sport on TV.

The casino is close to nearby Muskoseepi Park with its gorgeous trails which are just great for walking and hiking if you fancy a break from the cards, table games and slots.
