Boomtown Casino began as a small temporary operation in 1978 without a permanent location. In 2000, it moved to its current location at the Peter Pond Shopping Centre in downtown Fort McMurray. Throughout its history the casino has maintained its commitment to community groups. It currently supports over 250, which bring in volunteers to operate two-day casino nights to raise money for their good works.
The city of Fort McMurray is a rapidly growing Northern Alberta city. Attractions close to the casino include the MacDonald Island Park – a stunning recreation centre with something for everyone including a water park, skating, golf, rock climbing, squash, curling and a gym.
This is the only casino in the local area and the site provides a ‘front-street’ location as well as ample parking.
There are a number of hotels within walking distance of the casino including the highly regarded Clearwater Suite Hotel, the Franklin Suite Hotel and, a little further away, the Radisson. Cheaper hotels nearby include Nomad Inn and Suites and the Super 8 Motel.
The casino’s 2006 expansion now gives it over 23,500 square feet of gaming and entertainment. You can enjoy free live entertainment in the Boomtown lounge every Thursday, Friday and Saturday with a variety of music played and there is a restaurant with daily specials on site as well as a lounge where you can enjoy a daily cocktail special whilst playing Keno.
The casino features 450 slots, 13 table games and 3 poker rooms with weekly poker tournaments. Opening times for table games are Monday to Wednesday 4.00 p.m. – 1.00 a.m., Thursday 4.00 p.m. – 2.00 a.m., Friday and Saturday noon to 2.00 a.m. and Sunday noon to 1.00 a.m.
